The Alora Split That Costs Money: Integrated LED Versus Fixtures You Lamp Yourself
Alora is a decorative brand, so most buyers arrive here choosing by look. The problem is that the most expensive mistake on this range has nothing to do with looks. Roughly 44 percent of Alora fixtures ship without a light source, and you cannot tell which ones from the category, the price, or the photograph. A 6-light chandelier that needs six E12 candelabra lamps is a different order from an integrated LED chandelier that arrives ready to energize.
Telling an integrated fixture from a lamped one
Of the 586 fixtures here, 327 carry an integrated LED module and 259 use a replaceable lamp that is not included. The split does not track the product type. Vanity lights run 102 integrated against 95 lamped. Chandeliers run 47 integrated against 66 lamped, so the odds actually flip depending on which category you are in. Only multi-pendants, ceiling fans and floor lamps are entirely integrated. When a fixture is lamped, the base is almost always E12 candelabra or E26 medium, and Lumera stocks both across the LED bulbs and lamps range.
There is a fast tell on the listing. Integrated fixtures state a wattage and a color temperature for the fixture itself and are marked dimmable. Lamped fixtures state a maximum wattage per socket and a socket count instead, phrased as something like four sockets at up to 40W each. If you see a per-socket maximum, you are ordering a housing.
Why this matters beyond the lamp cost
Compliance follows the light source. The Title 24 JA8 flag, California's certification requirement for high-efficacy light sources in regulated rooms, appears on 247 fixtures here, and every one of them is an integrated LED model. Not a single lamped fixture carries it, because the compliance depends on a lamp Alora does not supply. On a California job in a regulated space, the lamped half of this catalog is off the table unless you separately specify a JA8-certified lamp and document it.
What the first two letters of an Alora part number mean
Alora's numbering is unusually disciplined and it is worth learning, because it turns a 586-item grid into something you can read at a glance. The first two letters are the fixture type, and the mapping is exact on 585 of the 586 parts here.
WV is wall vanity, the bath bar mounted above or beside a mirror, and it is the largest group at 197 parts. PD is a pendant, a single fixture hung from one canopy, at 145. CH is a chandelier, meaning a multi-arm or multi-tier ceiling fixture, at 113.
LP is a linear pendant, the long bar hung over an island or table, at 40 parts, and MP is a multi-pendant, several heads fed from one shared canopy, at 28. FM is a flush mount sitting tight to the ceiling at 27, and SF is its semi-flush cousin on a short stem at seven.
The tail is small. PL covers wall and picture lights at 13 parts, TL is a portable table lamp at 11, HF is a ceiling fan with an integrated light at two, and FL is a floor lamp at two.
After the prefix comes a model number, then a finish code, then in many cases a glass or shade code such as CR for clear ribbed or CC for clear crystal. The eight codes below are the common ones and do not cover every finish in the range.
VB is vintage brass on 133 products and UB is urban bronze on 123, so those two alone cover almost half the range. PN is polished nickel on 80, MB matte black on 40 and NB natural brass on 33. Below those, CH is chrome on 12, BG brushed gold on seven and CB black on six.
Do not read the digits as a size. On many parts the two digits before the finish do match the inch dimension in the title, but on plenty of others they do not, and on multi-head fixtures the same position sometimes carries a head count instead. Take the size from the title.
Two suffixes worth knowing
A part ending in -UNV is universal voltage. All 62 of them are rated 120V to 277V, which is what you need on 277V commercial gear. The relationship runs one way. There are 173 fixtures rated 120V to 277V here and only 62 carry the suffix, so the absence of -UNV does not mean the fixture is 120V only. A part ending in -RT has a remote driver. All 16 of them mount the driver away from the fixture, which means you have to plan an accessible location for it before the ceiling closes up.
Alora, Alora Mood and Kuzco are three different catalogs
Alora, Alora Mood and Kuzco are three brands from one manufacturer group, and Lumera stocks all three as separate collections. Buyers mix them up constantly. Part numbers do not cross between them, so a Kuzco number will never resolve to an Alora fixture or the reverse, and a design in one line often has no equivalent in the others. Every count below was read from the live Lumera collections.
Alora itself holds 586 fixtures at Lumera, all interior decorative and weighted toward vanity, pendant and chandelier work. Nothing in it is wet rated, so no part of this line belongs on an exposed exterior wall.
Alora Mood holds 940 fixtures and is the simpler, lower-priced subset line with its own numbering. Do not expect finish or size parity with an Alora part, because the two lines are designed independently.
Kuzco is much the largest at 2,662 fixtures and it is the only one of the three with real outdoor coverage, including 107 wet-location parts and 139 exterior fixtures. It shares no part numbers or series names with Alora.
Cross-shopping Alora against the sister line is worth the click when a fixture here is not offered in the finish you need, and the Alora Mood collection runs separately from this one.
If the project needs something wet rated or exterior from this manufacturer family, it will not come from the Alora line at all. Start in the Kuzco collection instead, where the exterior wall sconces, bollards and step lights sit.
Where Alora appears in Lumera's collections
Three type collections carry the brand in full. All 197 vanity lights sit in vanity lights, which is the place to compare Alora bath bars against the rest of the catalog on one grid.
All 113 chandeliers are filed under chandeliers, and the 34 flush and semi-flush mounts appear in the ceiling lights collection. Between those three, 344 of the 586 fixtures are cross-shoppable by type.
The gap is pendants. The 145 pendants, 40 linear pendants and 28 multi-pendants, 213 fixtures in total, are not currently filed into the pendant or linear collections and are reachable from this brand page and site search only. Sort this page by product type to work through them.
Dimming, drivers and control
Dimming behavior tracks the same integrated and lamped divide. On the 327 integrated fixtures the driver is in the product and the listings name TRIAC and ELV control, with a small number specifying 0-10V instead. Match the protocol before you order the control, since a TRIAC-only fixture on an ELV dimmer misbehaves at the low end. Reverse-phase and low-voltage-rated controls sit in ELV and 0-10V dimmers.
On the 259 lamped fixtures the fixture does not dim at all. The lamp does. Whether that circuit dims smoothly, and how far down it goes, is decided by the lamp you put in it and the dimmer you pair with that lamp, not by anything Alora ships. That is worth saying out loud on a job where the designer has promised a dimmed dining room, because a non-dimmable lamp in a beautiful chandelier produces a very short conversation.
Freight, finishes and how the listing reads
The freight flag applies to 101 items on this page rather than parcel handling, and they are concentrated in the large decorative pieces. The breakdown is 39 chandeliers, 26 pendants, 20 linear pendants, six wall and picture lights, four multi-pendants and both ceiling fans. That designation is worth catching at quote stage on a project with several statement fixtures, because it changes how the delivery is staged on site rather than what the item costs.
Finish is baked into the part number rather than offered as a dropdown, so two finishes of the same design are two separate listings with two separate part numbers. Vintage brass leads at 120 products, then urban bronze at 111, polished nickel at 71, matte black at 35 and natural brass at 24. If a schedule calls for one finish across a whole floor, filter on that finish first and let it narrow the design options, rather than picking designs and hoping the finish exists. For fixture scale against room size, start with the lighting guides.
Numbers to pin down before the order goes in
These are the fields that move within the Alora range. Read them on the individual listing, because none of them can be inferred from the brand or the category.
- Light source. Integrated LED or lamped. This is the first thing to check on every Alora part, every time.
- Lamp base and socket count. On lamped fixtures, usually E12 candelabra or E26 medium, with a stated maximum wattage per socket.
- Location rating. 370 dry and 216 damp. Nothing here is wet rated, so no Alora fixture belongs on an exposed exterior wall.
- Supply voltage. 120V on most, 120V to 277V on 173 fixtures. Check before you commit to a 277V commercial circuit.
- Driver location. Integral on nearly all, remote on the 16 parts ending in -RT.
- Dimming protocol. TRIAC and ELV are the common listings on integrated parts, with 0-10V on a few.
- Color temperature. 3000K on 207 fixtures and 2700K on 114, so the range is not uniform and mixing them in one room shows.
- Title 24 JA8. Flagged on 247 fixtures, all integrated LED. No lamped fixture qualifies on its own.
- ADA projection. Flagged on 96 fixtures, all of them vanity lights, and on nothing else in the range.
- Freight handling. Applies to 101 items, mostly chandeliers and larger pendants.
Confirm the fixture against the governing code and the authority having jurisdiction on your project. A damp rating is not permission to install outdoors, and a listing from the factory does not substitute for approval on site. Where that responsibility falls is spelled out in Lumera's installation and code disclaimer.
What specifiers ask about Alora fixtures
Does this Alora fixture come with bulbs?
It depends on the part, and the odds are close to even. Of the 586 fixtures here, 327 have an integrated LED module and need nothing added. The other 259 take replaceable lamps that are sold separately, most often E12 candelabra or E26 medium. The listing tells you which: an integrated fixture states its own wattage and color temperature, while a lamped one states a maximum wattage per socket.
What is the difference between Alora and Alora Mood?
They are separate lines from the same manufacturer group. Alora is the luxury decorative line, and Alora Mood is a subset aimed at simpler, more accessible pieces. Part numbers do not overlap and the two are stocked as separate collections here, so a design you like in one line may have no equivalent in the other.
Can I use an Alora fixture outside?
No. Every fixture in this range is rated dry or damp, and none is wet rated. A damp rating covers a fully covered porch or a bathroom, not an exposed exterior wall or anywhere rain and spray reach the fixture. For wet-rated product from the same manufacturer family, look at the Kuzco line instead.
What do the letters WV, PD, CH and LP mean at the start of a part number?
They are the fixture type, and the mapping is exact across the range. WV is wall vanity, PD is pendant, CH is chandelier, LP is linear pendant and MP is multi-pendant. FM is flush mount, PL is wall or picture light, TL is table lamp, SF is semi-flush mount, HF is ceiling fan and FL is floor lamp. Reading the first two characters is the fastest way to sort a mixed schedule.
Which Alora fixtures work on a 277V circuit?
There are 173 fixtures rated 120V to 277V, and 62 of those carry a -UNV suffix on the part number, but the suffix is not a complete filter, so a part without it may still be universal voltage. Read the voltage on the listing rather than relying on the suffix alone.
What does the -RT suffix mean?
It means the driver mounts remotely rather than inside the fixture. Sixteen parts here are built that way, mostly larger multi-head pendants where there is no room in the canopy. Plan for it: the driver needs an accessible location within the specified distance of the fixture, and that location has to be decided before the ceiling is closed.
