Sealed Against Water Is Not the Same as Safe in Vapor

The name creates a dangerous assumption, so settle it first. A vapor tight fixture keeps moisture and dust out of the housing. It is not certified to operate safely in an atmosphere that can ignite, and buying one for a classified area is a serious mistake, not a preference.

Vapor Tight and Hazardous Location Are Different Products

A vapor tight luminaire is rated for ingress: the gasket, the lens, and the latches keep water and particles outside the housing so the driver and the boards stay dry, which is an environmental durability claim.

A hazardous location luminaire is certified to a Class and Division or Zone, meaning its own operation, heat, and any internal arcing cannot ignite the flammable gas, vapor, or combustible dust around it. That is a safety certification, and no amount of sealing substitutes for it.

Reading the Ingress Rating

The fixtures in this range carry IP65 or IP66 ratings. The first digit describes solids and dust, the second describes water, and higher is more protective in each position.
