What is a vapor tight light used for?
Vapor tight fixtures go where ordinary lights would fail. They seal out water, dust, and vapor in parking garages, car washes, cold storage, food plants, and tunnels. The gasketed housing keeps moisture off the electronics, so the fixture survives washdowns and humid air. Anywhere a space gets hosed down, freezes, or fills with dust, a vapor tight is the right fixture.
What's the difference between IP65 and IP66 on a vapor tight?
Both are sealed; the water rating differs. An IP65 fixture resists low-pressure water jets and dust, enough for damp and splash areas. An IP66 fixture withstands powerful high-pressure jets, needed for direct washdowns in car washes and food processing. The first digit (6) means dust-tight on both. Match the rating to how much water the fixture will actually take.
What size and wattage vapor tight do I need?
Match length to the run and wattage to the ceiling. A 2-foot fixture at 20 to 30 watts suits small rooms and coolers. A 4-foot fixture at 40 to 50 watts is the standard for garages and corridors. An 8-foot or higher-wattage unit covers tall or large bays. LED vapor tights run about 130 lumens per watt, so compare lumen output when sizing for brightness.
How are vapor tight lights mounted?
Mounting keeps the seal intact. A vapor tight surface-mounts to a ceiling or wall with the supplied clips or brackets. For open structures, suspend it on chain or cable at the needed height. Wiring enters through sealed cord grips that maintain the IP rating, so use the gasketed entry, not an open knockout. Confirm the mounting kit and cord grips are included before install.
Are vapor tight lights dimmable and selectable?
Most commercial vapor tights offer both. A 0-10V dimmable driver sets output and pairs with occupancy or daylight sensors to cut energy use. A selectable-CCT model switches between 4000K, 5000K, and 5700K with an onboard toggle. Some include a wattage-selectable switch to tune brightness at install. Confirm driver compatibility before adding a control.
