What is an A19 bulb, and is it the same as a standard light bulb?

Yes — A19 is the shape of the everyday light bulb. The "A" means the classic pear/arbitrary shape, and "19" is the diameter in eighths of an inch (about 2.4 inches). Paired with an E26 medium screw base, it's the standard household and commercial bulb, fitting nearly every lamp and fixture. When someone says "a light bulb," they almost always mean an A19 with an E26 base.

What's the difference between A19 and A21 bulbs?

They share a base but differ in size and output. An A19 is the standard 2.4-inch bulb for typical fixtures and lamps. An A21 is larger at 2.6 inches, holding more LED and pushing higher lumens — used where you need a brighter bulb, often for 100-watt-equivalent and up. Both use the E26 base, so an A21 fits the same socket if the fixture has room for the larger body.

What base do LED bulbs use — E26, E12, or E39?

The base is the threaded part that screws in, sized by millimeter. An E26 medium base is the standard for A19, A21, and PAR bulbs — the common household size. An E12 candelabra base is smaller, for chandeliers and decorative fixtures. An E39 mogul base is large, for high-wattage corn-cob and HID-replacement lamps. Match the base to your socket before choosing wattage or shape.

How do I read LED wattage equivalence?

LED bulbs list two numbers: actual watts and the incandescent they replace. A 9-watt LED typically equals a 60-watt incandescent, and a 15-watt LED equals about 100 watts — at a fraction of the energy. Because efficiency varies, compare lumens for true brightness: roughly 800 lumens for a 60-watt equivalent, 1,600 for 100-watt. Then pick the color temperature for the look you want.

Are LED bulbs dimmable, and what color temperatures are available?

Many are dimmable, but not all — check the label. A dimmable LED bulb works with compatible LED dimmers; a non-dimmable one will flicker or buzz on a dimmer. Color temperature ranges from warm 2700K for a cozy incandescent look, to 3000K and 4000K neutral, to 5000K daylight. Some bulbs are selectable-CCT, letting you switch the color on the bulb itself.
