Choose Between Balanced Ventilation and Inline Air Movement

Energy recovery ventilators exchange indoor and outdoor air through separate airstreams while transferring some heat and moisture between them. Inline duct fans place the fan within the duct run and can serve remote exhaust, supply, or ducted air-movement applications depending on the product and system design.

ERV Selection Requires More Than Nominal CFM

For an ERV, compare the required ventilation airflow with the unit's performance data, recovery performance, duct connections, filter access, controls, operating temperature limits, and installation configuration. A balanced system is designed to coordinate supply and exhaust, but equal nominal fan settings do not automatically guarantee neutral building pressure. Installed airflow should be set and verified using the manufacturer's commissioning procedure.

Inline Fans Are Part of the Duct System

An inline fan's delivered airflow depends on the resistance of the connected duct system. Confirm the required airflow at the expected static pressure, then check duct diameter, run length, elbows, grilles, dampers, terminations, and any multi-port layout. Plan Service Access and Controls

Confirm mounting orientation, access for filters or motor service, vibration isolation where required, control method, electrical supply, and any condensate or drain provisions stated by the manufacturer. For ERVs, port arrangement should fit the mechanical layout without compromising service access or the documented installation position.
