Match the Lighting Control to the Load and Control Method
A standard switch, phase-cut LED dimmer, 0-10V controller, occupancy sensor, timer, and fan-speed control are not interchangeable. Read both the load specification and the control specification before selecting a device.
Switching and Manual Dimming
For basic on/off control, match the switch to the system voltage, current, circuit arrangement, and load. For line-voltage dimming, use a dimmer designed for the specific lamp or driver type and within its published rating. 0-10V Uses a Separate Control Signal
0-10V systems use low-voltage control conductors in addition to the power circuit. The fixture or driver must support the control method and the controller must be designed for that system. Sensors, Timers, and Automatic Control
Occupancy and motion sensors can automate switching based on detected activity, while photocells and timers respond to light level or time-based logic. Fan and Fan-Light Controls Are Load-Specific
Do not use a lighting dimmer as a fan-speed control unless the manufacturer specifically permits the connected motor load. Fan and fan-light controls are designed for different electrical characteristics and functions. Use fan controls rated for the connected equipment.
