Compression Splices and What They Are For

A compression splice is a metal barrel that a conductor enters from each end. That permanence is the point. A short-barrel splice takes fewer crimps and fits where space is tight, such as a crowded pull box or an enclosure where a long connector will not lie down properly. Reducing and Service Entrance Splices

Not every joint connects two conductors of the same size. A reducing splice has different bore diameters at each end, so it can join a 4/0 AWG conductor to a 1/0 or a 2 AWG without adapters or doubled-up conductors.
