What is an LED canopy light used for?

An LED canopy light is a low-profile fixture mounted under an overhead structure that lights the area directly below. It covers gas-station canopies, parking garages, building soffits, walkways, and drive-thrus. Its sealed, vandal- and weather-resistant housing suits exposed outdoor and high-traffic ceilings.

What's the difference between a canopy light, wall pack, and flood light?

Each mounts and aims differently. A canopy light sits under a ceiling or deck and throws light straight down. A wall pack mounts on a wall and washes the perimeter. A flood light aims an adjustable beam at a target. Canopy lights suit overhead, downward-only coverage.

How do LED canopy lights mount?

Canopy lights mount three main ways. A recessed (flush) canopy drops into a soffit or deck for a clean ceiling line. A surface-mount canopy bolts flat to the underside of a structure. A pendant or J-box mount hangs the fixture from a stem or electrical box.

What wattage LED canopy light do I need?

Match LED wattage to the fixture it replaces. A 40W LED canopy replaces a 175W metal halide. A 75W LED replaces a 250W to 320W metal halide. Compare lumens, not watts — canopy lights commonly run 4,000 to 12,000 lumens.

Do LED canopy lights have a photocell?

Many do. A photocell (dusk-to-dawn sensor) turns the canopy light on at dark and off at dawn automatically. Models are sold photocell-included, photocell-ready, or without. A photocell-ready unit accepts a button or threaded photocell added at install.
